QUEBEC INNOVATION
The RSF fireplace brand is produced by Quebec-based company ICC. This 11,148 m2 (120,000 ft2) company operates 24 hours a day year-round, employing more than 200 local people. Located in Saint-Jérôme, it has been manufacturing heating products since 1991. True industry enthusiasts, ICC has created innovative and ecological technologies by combining all their know-how. In fact, RSF appliances reinvent the use of heating devices to make wood combustion cleaner and more functional than ever.
LOCAL PASSION
- “When firewood is used as an energy source, part of the natural carbon cycle is directed into our homes for heating. The fire releases the solar energy stored by the tree as it grows. Considering the entire cycle, a clean-burning fireplace will heat your home more efficiently and have a reduced ecological impact compared to any other fuel option”. – ICC cheminée –
A firm believer of carbon cycle benefits, RSF has been committed to making the most of the fuel used to power its appliances since its inception. This desire for efficiency and performance is one of the reasons why the company is so meticulous in the design of its wood-burning fireplaces. Specifically, it has developed and manufactured technologies such as the Smart BurnRate (SBR) and the bi-metallic damper that increase energy efficiency and reduce airborne carbon emissions. As a result, most of its units have received EPA energy certification as low as 0.7 g/hr.
Besides energy performance, functionality is reinvented by RSF wood-burning fireplaces. Too often, heating appliances provide comfort in the home, but completely overheat the room in which the fireplace is located. This makes it difficult to enjoy the benefits of burning wood, but RSF found the solution! In fact, for those who want it, the company has equipped its appliances with a heat transfer system that allows you to heat other rooms in your home just like a central heating system.
Finally, this technological design is also matched with designs that suit all home styles. Whether you’re looking for a more traditional fireplace style with louvres or a sleek product, the RSF line will complement the boldest of environments, as well as the most conservative.
COMFORT CREATOR
COMFORT CONTROL
RSF calls it the central heating option. We call it the art of reinventing fireplaces. For most people, a wood-burning fireplace is a luxury for ambiance. For others, it’s a common room heater. At RSF, a fireplace can do all these things, as well as being the primary source of heat for your home.
How does it work?
The central heating option allows you to connect an RSF fireplace to a heat pipe system that can go in any direction. Unlike gravity-fed systems, an RSF allows you to send heat not only above the unit, to the floor for example, but also below. This gives you the ability to reach even the most remote rooms.
This system also allows you to control the desired temperature through a thermostat system. With a temperature controller located in the same room as the fireplace, you can redirect the heat to another section of the house when the temperature in that room becomes too high. You can also create separate zones in the house. In fact, one duct can serve up to three separate zones in your home, and each zone can be controlled individually with the zone control option.
MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR WOOD
RSF has incorporated in some of its fireplaces what is called a bi-metallic damper. In other words, it is an automatic air opening and closing system. Acting like a thermostat, this ingenious advance allows the fireplace to maintain a stable temperature throughout the combustion process.
The difference between a fireplace without an air restriction and a RSF is that the former can burn up to 50% of its wood load in two hours. Therefore, in addition to interfering with the slow burning process necessary for night-time heating, excessive heat will be generated during the time the fireplace is normally used in the room. An RSF with a bi-metallic damper, on the other hand, will automatically reduce the air supply at the beginning of the combustion cycle and increase it at the end. Therefore, the heat remains even throughout the cycle.
Finally, since temperature determines heat, the RSF fireplace will adjust to the energy demand of the house by automatically burning more wood when it is cold and less wood when it is hot.
“RSF’s unique bi-metallic air control and central heating options is just one of the reasons RSF fireplaces won the coveted Popular Science Choice award”.
